"Now, I wouldn't presume to tell a woman what a woman ought to think…."
I really should offer brownie points and emails heavy with super-hot pics of a certain senator a bunch of us like to the first person who can finish that lyric.
Anyway, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a month that, for me, jumped the shark last year when women my age and younger started taking pictures of themselves in lacy black bras and posting them to their flickr accounts under titles like - and I am not making this up - "Boobie Awareness Month."
Because, really, that's the big hurdle we face in the area of women's health - getting people to notice we have boobs.
So today I was kind of intrigued when I saw Think Before You Pink, which is not, as the title may suggest, a caution against going too crazy with the fun scissors, but an indictment of the cause-marketing campaigns that make us feel like we're curing cancer, when really we're just buying a bunch of pink stuff.
As somebody who would buy a bunch of pink stuff anyway ("I Enjoy Being a Girl" made the short list when I was choosing a theme song, but, in the end, it didn't make a strong enough case), I'm not sure if it's fair to criticize somebody for buying a pink stand mixer instead of a white or black one. But I am super impressed with the fact that the site's front page contains a link to information on Cosmetics Companies and Breast Cancer, which is a huge Women's Health and the Environment issue.
So check it out, and if you're still looking to put a little pink in your day (and why wouldn't you be?) avoid those containing icky phalates and parabens - you'll need to keep yourself healthy to Kerry On!
