Of power ties and polka dots

It's Tie Day, Kerrycrats, and I understand it's been a long time coming: the subject of power ties arose in a post-dinner discussion earlier this week, and, seeing as how I was with some of the only people in my "real" life who know I maintain a John Kerry fan blog, I mentioned that The Tall Guy had procured a new tie.

A new POLKA DOT tie.

To which Mr. Democrafty indignantly replied, "What? Why didn't you post?!?"

Yes, ladies and gentleman, it is possible to sustain a marriage, at least partially, via Google reader.

Anywho. Big thanks are due to the fine folks at Boston's WTKK FM, who hosted the second and (thank the sweet holy Lord) final debate between TTG and Jeff Beatty. An intuitive format, given Mr. Beatty's face for radio. Listen here, though it's not audio that inspires my gratitude toward Boston's self-proclaimed "Talk Evolution."

It's the pictures. All of which are, of course, available at the above link. But not with my captions.

Senator Kerry enters WTKK, and wonders if he absolutely must sit next to that guy.

Mr. Beatty is thrilled to be at the debate. Senator Kerry is plainly absolutely fracking thrilled to be there with him.

Mr. Beatty is poised to begin his patented snarly lip thing…

…but is he any match for the guy with the polka dot tie?

Given my strong advocacy for ties that feature small animals, baked goods, and pastel shades, it should come as no surprise that I am 100% behind polka dots. I only wish I could provide tips on where to pick up a blue spotted tie of one's own. The one JK's sporting has eluded be so far online, but, the good news is, there are polka dot ties in just about every color and price range available pretty much everywhere.

As a debate tie, it's not traditional, and wouldn't have been right for JK to don while debating, say, the President of the United States. But for the event in question, I think it was perfect. Without descending into tacky Hulk tie territory, it seems to say, "I don't take myself too seriously. My opponent? Even less so."

So it gets a big squee from democrafty, but that's news to no one. If you want news, you'll have to check out JK on Meet the Press on Sunday.

So Kerry On, with a special emphasis on getting out the vote - I've been hearing lots of good things about this Barack Obama guy!

xoxo, dc
